You see little girls walking around everyday covered in pink from head to toe, whether it's the ribbon in their hair or the Barbie t-shirt they are wearing, but for what reason? It has been socially constructed that girls wear pink and act as mothers to their plastic baby dolls. This picture shows my aunt and her daughter taking part in just this. My little cousin, Dianna, is wearing a pink tank top that is thought to be a color and style of shirt associated to girls. You would rarely see a young boy in a tight, bright pink tank top. Behind her lays one of Dianna's favorite toys, her pink stroller that is used to push around all of her dolls. She uses this everyday as she takes her dolls to the store or on a walk around the block. It is as if she was told to wear these colors and take on a motherly role in her everyday life. In our society women are also tended to be "looked down" upon in relation to men. The angle of this photo presents my aunt and cousin as though they are very close emotionally and on the same level, but are still looked down upon from other's points of view. This photo shows the true effects of gender socialization in an everyday situation.
