Young children show affection towards what they want. However, children at young ages don't usually know what they want. Instead, parents give them whatever looks right according to their gender. Society and the media also stereotype how each gender should act and what they should play with. I felt like this picture said a lot about gender socialization as a whole, not necessarily just this age. In this picture you can see two little girls who are very affectionate towards the camera. People might already assume that there isn't really anything going on in the picture because it is expected from girls. Today in society, girls are expected to show more emotion then guys and its not an abnormal thing when girls seem to be really close with one another. Even at this age, boys are aware with feminine activities and try not to associate with it, because they are afraid of being made fun of. Even after maturing and growing up, when guys(in general) act close with one another, their considered as "fags". The little girl holding the doll probably either asked for it because she saw her friends playing with one similar to it, or it was just given to her because dolls are associated with girls. This picture makes a statement by illustrating that even though we grow up and mature, things like gender stereotyping and etc. are involved with how we act regardless the age.
