The media and peers have a huge impact on children today. When you turn on the TV you see all kinds of commercials for toys. A Spiderman commercial, with a man dressed as a spider with a red suit and mask, fighting crime. Kids witness violence at such a young age, and the violence never appear to stop. Children want toy guns, swords, and even spider web shooters to mimic what they see through the media and learn on the playground. Males are the leading perpetrators of violence in America, and we tend to neglect the facts and wonder why kids act the way they do. Violence is perpetuated though what our youth learn at home (through adult behaviors), what they watch on television, and what they learn from the movies. This is an unfortunate fact; however, violence sells more movie tickets, toys, and increases the revenue generated by TV commercials for the products that advertise on shows that promote violence.
My picture makes the statement that children learn from watching others and through the media. Specifically, through their peers, the Spiderman cartoon on television, and Spiderman, the motion picture. The boy in the picture is jumping off of a table just like Spiderman jumping off of a building, and is happy doing so. Through discussions with the child he seemed to understand that he does not possess the
same "superpowers" as the media driven character, Spiderman. Although, he sure seems content pretending to have these qualities.
