Torrid

from: Alysen

This is a picture of the clothing store Torrid. It is a store for plus size adolescent girls who want to dress as stylish and trendy as thinner teenagers. I believe that this store is an advancement in the socialization of young girls. Not only does it give girls who are plus size a place to buy more fashionable clothes, it also tells the young girls you don't need to be super skinny to dress more hip. These days more than ever girls are feeling the need to be thinner because they want to look like their peers or celebrities in magazines. And these airbrushed photos they see send them the wrong message. Everyone is different; and just because you're not as skinny as Paris Hilton, doesn't mean you can't dress like her.

I think instead of having a whole different store for plus sized girls, they should just have one store that can accomodate everyone. Why should one group of people have to be singled out. However, in todays society plus sized women having a store especially for them is a step in the right direction.
