The significance in this picture can be clearly noticed by two different opinions and moods clashing together. It also has to deal with Gender Socialization during the teenage years of life. Typically when people go out to a public place that's considered "Formal," they like to dress appropriate. If one were to choose not to follow this norm and was a bit under dressed it might be looked at as deviant behavior in our society. For quite some time in our society people have been known to dress up for certain occasions. Which leads one to ponder who has the stronger argument here? Being forced to wear something you don't like in America which is considered a "free country." Girls deal with enough stress developing into a woman and wearing a proper outfit should be the last thing on their minds. Yet the most powerful feature of this picture in my opinion is the dimness of the room. It suggests what kind of mood is being portrayed from the young girl as she looks at the dress. Consequently, I'd like to assume that this type of situation is a common problem between a mother and a daughter

All women growing up having to deal with the issue of becoming a women. Also they have to deal with getting there mothers or grandmothers approval on there clothing choices. It is a extremely hard time to go through in the women’s life. Mothers of teenage girls is very tough because the girls always want to fight because they think there mothers are ruining there lives or destroying who they want to be. In all reality the mother is doing the best thing for her and I would know this because I was just like that.
I agree with Christie, it must be very tough to know what is "beautiful" in todays standards and have to wear something that someone else picks out based on their ideals of beauty. This picture is a classic picture of 2 generations who dont understand each others style clashing. I think this is especially had for young females, guys dont have this problem, they have to deal with other forms of pressure such as manliness.
