Skin Whitening Cream

The film we watched in class, A Girl Like Me, mentioned skin whiteners. Ann, a blogger at feministing.com, says that this advertisement for Fair and Lovely Skin Whitener "enforces the prejudices that contribute to economic and social inequality." What do you think? Should we blame the companies like Unilever that make these products?

I think this commercial was completely ridiculous and I can't believe any country would air it. It is commericals like this that cause many women around the world to have low self esteem and low self worht. I think companies like these should take some of the blame for the prejudices that contribute to economic and social inequalities. But I also believe that this is a problem that gets passed down from one generation of females of color to the next. But I also understand that these ideas of light skin being more beautiful are reinforced in our society. So it seems that the cycle is never ending. Until the companies stop endorsing these kinds of products and our society changes its views on what is beautiful the cyle will go on. The same is true for our societies views on what the perfect body image is. America and Americans need to stop holding such high inobtainable standards for women of every race.

First thing first this commercial was way crazy. I mean the individual who makes these commercials, do they take the audiences as deaf and dumb? because these kinda of media has been causing a contributing factor th create gender biases and stereotypes in the society. I dont know if these commercials are legitimate to get aired in the television, because there are certains restrictions and obligations, and rights the media has, but nonetheless I think these commercials does nothing except selling its product and dehumanizing women and potrait a woman as an object

wow what a commercial... to imply that a fathers love is based on if your skin is lighter. I think we should blame the media for creating these stereotypes. These companies should be ashamed of themselves for perpetuating the cycle. I dont understand how something like this, that is obviously bad for you could possibly be sold. It shouldnt be allowed. This type of thing just reinforces to young girls that they will never be good enough and that only through products can yopu really be beautiful.
