In my photo assignment I have two brothers in the picture posing as if they were to begin wrestling. In the background you can see a calendar of wrestlers that they watch on television, this calendar represents the media and the influence it has on young children. The boys are posed as if to fight and one is wearing a mask while the other holds a wrestling belt. I chose this position because it shows the boys being masculine and acting like "tough guys." In society boys are usually told to be tough, not to show too much emotion, and to be able to take care of themselves. Also, young children usually socialize into same-sex groups. You most likely would not see a young girl wrestling with boys. I chose to take this photo because I believe it shows that boys are influenced by the media as well as young girls and the media shows them the gender stereotypes.

being a boy and wanting to be a wrestler is the same a girl wanting to become a princess. Janet is definitely right about gender roles being enforced and apparent just as much for boys as it is for girls. It also shows that being macho is what it is to be a guy, and until we teach our children otherwise, its just not true. Why is fighting synonymous with boys? because most boys grow up the same way, thinking that being tough is what really is important. Perhaps if the focus was switched onto education, love, family, then fighting, society would be much different.
