I'm Not Her

from: Jennie

My picture is of a girl living in a world not her own. She has a purple room and wears boys clothes. Lauren Greenfield portrays that gender socialization is based on media, which I can agree, but what's wrong with this girl? Her parents want her to be like every other girl and socialize herself with the other girls in school. To me, it looks as if she is rebelling gender socialization. What do you think?

I think this is a great picture! It really shows how some parents try to live through their children by making them someone they are not. Some mothers dream of having girls that they can shop, chat, and dress up with but that does not always happen. Good job!

Well i def agree with rebelling with gender socialization. I thnk it really shows how much a role parents play in the development of their children. I think it is very brave of the girl to go agiainst these media stereotypes because she not only receives pessure from her school, peers, other adults; she also receives pressure from her parents. I mean we can tell that most likely she didnt paint her own room purple. I agree with cltipton, some people want to have that stuff with their daughters, but i dont think its cool to force it upon them.
