The picture was taken in black and white to represent the issues of gender socialization. It seems that most parents have a great influence on what there children play with. This is especially true what it comes to little boys. Most parents don't want there little boys to play with dolls because they fear that they will grow up less masculine or perhaps gay. The two men in the picture show a different outcome based on what toys they played with as children. The man to the left is holding a toy car and cooking on the grill which clearly shows his masculinity whereas the man on the right is holding a baby doll and appears to not be doing anything other then looking pretty. The man on the left is in the front of the picture to show his power and the importance of masculinity and the man to the right is placed further back in the picture to represent that playing with dolls is simply unacceptable and not approved. The black and white photo represents that society is very "black and white" when it comes down what children should be allowed to play with. In other words, boys should only play with trucks, blocks and video games not dolls or "girly toys."

This picture bothers me very much. Its almost like these men are trying to poke fun of the norms for women, and we did not chose for it to be that way. No one ever said that boys couldn't play with dolls, and the fact that there all standing around the grill sarcastically posing with a babydoll suchs that they are being pompous and think what they are doig is far more important than anything a woman could be involved with.
