Most boys growing up are only known as ‘tough’ or ‘manly’ when they play sports like football, wrestling, etc. This picture has a young boy doing a hand stand who is brighter and closer to the camera then the boy playing videogames. Even though guys get made fun of for being a gymnast, they can go as far as the Olympics, where as videogames don’t take you anywhere. This picture also portrays that just because they’re a gymnast doesn’t mean they’re gay. The gymnast has a shirt on that says, “No Pain, No Game.” This shows that he is just as tough as a football player. The background pictures are all football pictures no gymnasts which shows that children grow up thinking and being taught that sports are what is ‘tough.’ This makes boys want to become big, strong and aggressive.
