Boy Power

From Dennis:

I choose this picture mainly because this is my little brother and he is going through this stage of his life where he is trying to figure out who he is and is doing pretty much anything to get attention. Even though Joe looks like he's working out in the picture his form is way off, he's wearing jeans, he's wearing the wrong shoes to work out in and hes way too young to be lifting wieghts. With the work out he is doing he should not let his elbows go below the bench. Jeans are a bit restricting to run in and his shoes look like they can slip on and off. This shows how he isn't fully into weight lifting because he's still trying to figure out who he is and just wants to fit in somewhere. I also included the folded but unfinished laundry in the picture to show that he is still young and his parents probably folded them but he doesn't have the "time" to put them away like a normal adolescent. The unfinished laundry crowding the room also represents the clutter and dysfunction in his life and how he could be so many different people and go along so many different roads to try to fit in. Finally, I made the Under Armour symbol the center of the picture because he is getting this idea of working out and staying fit from magazines and commercials. They put this image out of its cool or almost a necessity to wear Under Armour when you work out. So even though he's wearing jeans, the wrong shoes, and has the wrong form he thinks its ok because he's wearing an Under Armour shirt and he's fitting in.

This picture reminds me of my little cousins. They see my older cousins working out all the time and wanting to be just like them. Some of my cousins know what they like and even though its not what everyone else is doing they found their own path, but most of my cousins want to be the big macho man and work out like all the other guys. They know very little about working out they just see whats in front of them. They dont know the side affects like working out too young can stunt growth.

This picture represents the gender roles that are passed down to young males through resources such as the media. They are expected to be in shape, muscular, and strong. Since he is not going about working out correctly, it is probably true that he is modeling an older male figure in his life.

this picture represents all the things that are expected of little boys. they are ment to want to grow big and strong, show their dominance. its also funny cause like all little chrildren they all want and try so hard to grow up fast. most of the time they will get one thing right but not the other... like matching shoes.
