The photo I took for this assignment portrays how men are taught as they grow up to see themselves as stronger than woman. In the bigger scheme my photo shows how men believe they should hold more power than woman. I chose to take my photo in the weight room of Sport Fit because mostly guys populate this room and women are seldom. The most prominent objects in this photo are the seats I arranged my actors to sit on and the mirror in the background. The seat that the guy is working out on is higher than the seat than the girl is working out on. The significance of the guy's seat being higher was to symbolize that men are higher up in society and are viewed as more powerful by society. The mirror in the background represents how the woman in the photo views herself against how society views them. The weights represent strength. The male's weights are level and stable while the female's are unbalanced and different sizes. This shows how females struggle to go against society's norms. I chose to shoot the photo on a side angel so the guy in the background could be seen in the mirror. The male's attention is directed to the girl because he is surprised and confused to why she is working out in "the men's room." In general woman are viewed weaker and men are viewed stronger with all of the power, I believe my photo portrays this well. I enjoyed doing this photo/blog assignment; it allowed me to think out of the box and to be more creative.

Great artistic effort but if you had to stage all of this then what does that mean? is your point really valid? how can one know what is going on inside someone else's mind?
I think that this point is really valid even from my own experience. My sister is three years older than my brother so naturally growing up in the younger years she was stronger than him. This always made him so mad. He would do anything to try an beat her in races and who could spit further. I think you learn genger roles at a very young age and are encouraged to act a certain way.
I believe this picture does have a valid point. First point the man wanting to be a step ahead of the woman has a lot to do with social location. Sure both of them are white which the dominant part is, but he is a woman also making him dominant and the woman subordinate. So placing the women behind the man was perfect because in society it is true. Also having the man have his weights already above his head and the woman only half way was a great way to explain men feeling the need to be superior to the woman. Society has influenced us about gender roles and gender scripts men and women must follow; to this day we still do. Men must be stronger, not only physically but mentally. Men must be one step of women.
Men are seen as having more power in general in our society today. This picture shows how they are stronger. They are also higher up which symbols power. Women have to struggle to be on an equal level as men.
What's interesting about this picture is the camera angle, not sure if it was intentional, but the angle goes directly between the womans legs. It also looks as if one guy is looking in that direction. No wonder some gyms offer women only sections.
