In this photo, is my friends little cousin. She's about to play with her favorite toy, a Disney princess dress up set- It includes tiaras and heels. This relates to the socialization of gender because her female gender is what caused her parents to pick this gift out for her. In our society parents most likely will not buy a toy truck for their daughter or a Barbie for their son. I highlighted the pink areas to emphasize the femininity of the photo.

The color pink I feel has been installed in our minds as women to accept and like the color. I have a favorite color it's yellow but for some reason I feel as though the color pink will always be special to me as a woman. I like the idea of you using that color to explain that gender is learned so my theory is that women are taught to love the color pink because its sexy, attractive and feminine the color is also associated with happiness.
I feel like this picture shows how media has "boxed" feminity. The fact that you can get a chest or a kit to be a pricess, tells us that this box contains what you should represent to be a girl. The little plastic heels, the pink princess dress, and the tiara are all symbols of femininity. This I feel is the easiest way media has found to influence our kids, (and a lazy way for the parents too), just let the kids open the box and play. Often parents follow traits not because they like them, but because it is easier to buy what everyone wants than go out of your way to found something better. Media makes us lazy thinkers always looking for the easy way out.
