This photo represents how the media is sending ideas to young girls that they need to meet certain standards our society has put on being the ideal women. From a young age we begin to see these images on television and in magazines that we begin to consider them the "norm" and we wonder why our looks can't compete with them. This is taking a toll on the self esteem of girls from a younger and younger age.

Kelsey, this image is a wonderful example of two young girls that have been socialized. I do agree that the media contributing to the self-esteem or lack there of, for young women. I also believe they are being blindly lead while trying to internalize what they are actually doing. The cucumbers are supposably for removing dark circles from under the eyes and the mask may possibly be used to improve complexion or pores; which are problems I don’t believe either of these girls suffer from but imitating what they “believe” should be done to begin to preserve their beauty. The God-like or fully omniscient point of view that it provides gives insight to model of perfection they are imitating. The magazine to side suggest that they have read an article of self improvement which they believe will bring some satisfaction. I believe the cucumbers covering their eyes symbolizes their blindness or naivety in the actions they are performing. The desire to fit into the gender roles of society is very clear in this image as these young girls attempt to be beautiful and at peace with the daunting task of being a “lady”.
In the photo, “Young Desire of Beauty” it is a picture of two girls using facial masks and cucumbers. As many WOMEN know, facial masks are for your complexion, to shrink your pores, and the cucumbers are for the bags and puffiness under your eyes. It is clear these young girls aren’t even at a stage in their life where they’d have a blemish let alone puffiness or gaping pores. This picture is a clear depiction on how the media starts aiming at young girls to buy their beauty products before they reach adolescence. The media makes the average girl feel unattractive and how their product can improve your appearance. They aim at young girls so their self esteem can lower at an early age so they’ll buy their produces even earlier making much more money.
This picture is a great example about how the media is influencing girls at such a young age. The media has created these beauty standards that are impossible to live up to, which makes it hard for young girls to have confidence. Girls, at a young age, start to feel like they need to compete with all the other girls to see how is "perfect" and "beautiful".
I really like this picture. I feel like we as a society are trying to make young girls grow up way too fast. They are starting to make kids nail polish and beauty products. Most nail salons have children's manicure and pedicure packages. Bath and Body works has the own line of girls body washes and lotions.
The first thing that comes to mind when I see this photo is that these children must see something like this pretty regularly in order to want to imitate it. Though it is cute, it is setting them up at a very young age to fall right into the sterotype the media portrays for young grls.
This photo reminds me so much of my two little cousins. A while back I had my dance friends over for a night of relaxation and fun after all the hard work we put into competing. We gave ourselves pedicures and put masks on our faces to exfoliate our skin. My two cousins were staying at my house for the weekend and we caught them using the face masks on their faces when we weren't around. Their remarks were "well we saw you doing so we wanted to try." This photo really captures the idea of young girls looking up to older ones. These little girls see images of women on tv and in magazines trying to make themselves a little more beautiful. They want to do the same to try and fit it. I like how the girls have on girly shirts and that theres a "teen" magazine laying next to the girl on the left.
I think that this a a great image. It is amazing how young girls start to realize what the "norm" of being a women is. My boss's daughter is 8 and the things she says really amazes me. She has made a comment about how pony tails arent pretty, and if she wears a pony tail she wont be pretty. It is quite amazing that they learn this stuff at such a young age, and how early on the media really does effect them.
This is a great photo depicting two young women that have been brainwashed by the media in thinking that beauty is everything. This is a topic that never gets old seeing how it’s been around for centuries. What ever happened to statements like ”True beauty lies within” or “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Our society has made women feel like their natural beauty will never be enough. Does happiness truly lie behind the chemical and make-up products that women use to change their appearance for what they think to be the better? I disagree with holding beauty at such a high standard because I believe a person is worth more than their looks alone.
This is a great picture explaining how the media affects little girls. They are lying around relaxing. As if they have no care in the world. It does not matter age if someone sees something they like or they think they have to like they take it as they have to join them or like it also. The little girls in the photo has on a facial mask as if to get there face clean. I think this photo really shows how the little things can have a affect on anyone.
