Blank Slate

From Alex:
In this picture are my two nieces Ayden (left) who is 4 and Brooklyn (right) who is five and they both love dressing up and acting like princesses. They love all the Disney movies with princesses and try to imitate them when they play together. This picture was taken to exemplify their idea of how all girls should look. The wall they are standing in front of is mostly bare, and that represents their blank slate, and that they can be anyone they want to be. Disney represents princesses as beautiful young girls who always grow up to marry a prince charming or have their knight in shining to armor come save them, and that’s what many young girls see and believe that’s what will happen to them. My nieces, like many other girls, are influenced by this idea of perfection, because they are too young to know otherwise. When they are told that it is only pretend, they get agitated because this is their idea of the perfect woman.
