This photo shows how the sub entry “Beauty is a Beast” relates also in people eighteen years old and younger. Women typically have a high standard of beauty as well as men have a standard of what level of beauty they prefer. So for a female to become accepted from the opposite sex we do things to enhance our outer beauty. This becomes negative because it affects females emotional, mentally, and physically. My photo shows a young child that is at the age of nine. The setting of the picture is cornered in by her closet that shows the audience she has much going on for her age. She’s’ surrounded by materialistic items that make out to be the average “girlie girl” for children in today’s society. As a young minded child of society she could be easily influenced by: media, family, and peers as a typical average girl that individuals usually would accept.
The catalog that’s sitting on the top of the stack of books represents the media which is directed towards her age group. it shows how when girls learned how to enhance their outer looks to be like the ones that are famous to them. They believe if the girls in the catalog can be called cute by what their wearing in the pictures then the girls in reality will be praised for replicating the images they see. Also on the young girl shirt is a teen idol which is a form of media also. Media uses propaganda to lure young girls to their product to persuade to buy their products (putting teen idol on t-shirts). She has items in that will show she still believes in her kid era. The items that prove this statement are the SpongeBob and monkey pillow normally a child would have. Girls her age are exploring different routes to pursue to fit in. Her pose in the picture shows how females are a little off balanced. This shows how she is easily taken in by her clutter. It indicates how sometimes she doesn’t know which way to go. But you the plain white wall in the background that indicates the pureness because of her age. There’s space with the white wall and the women’s hair calendar that’s shows with her “pure” still a long time before worrying how to look like a woman. Still there’s a women calendar about hair that proves she a becoming independent early. The main focus point of the picture is the young girl herself. Her age makes her a main target to be influenced so easily.

When glancing at this photo, I immediately think of a “product of our society. “ Our children are growing up too fast as it is, and it is only getting shoddier. I blame it on many influences; some being friends, other acquaintances at school, family members, and the main reason is of course the media. Television has increased their influences in these children’s lives. It seems like the media is trying to target the younger generation more now than ever. I agree propaganda is used to persuade these young children to be interested in their product, music, or even dress. The way she is standing was the first thing in the photo that stood out. Wow! She is trying to mimic how older girls carry their selves. It looks as though she is buried in the corner of her room trying to take a huge step into the “socially accepted” world; while she tries to hide her “little girl” SpongeBob
and monkey pillows. However, due to all of the influences in her way, she is not sure on which way to go. In that little bit of space, she is overwhelmed with what our culture says is okay to be. This photo is a definition of a child transitioning from a “pretty in pink” girl, to a
sophisticated and trying to be seductive teen.
