The presence of the dark sky shows us how great of an influence society has over the girl who holds up her boxing gloves in defense against the gender schema theory. A theory that tells her that there are two different cultures between men and women. She stands in the middle of the road in between these two cultures. One that defines females as nurturing and warm and the other that defines males as strong and powerful. It is a theory that makes so many girls feel that they have to follow in order to understand female attributes, behaviors, and activities. However, notice that the girl in the picture wears a white shirt proudly demonstrating her innocence yet the look on her face shows us how unafraid she is of the open stretch that lay ahead. This beautiful face belongs to Kiara, an intelligent, ambitious, powerful, nurturing and gentle hearted female and she has broken the seals by pursuing her dream of becoming a female boxer. She looks to the left to declare that she is not and will never follow the pervasive cultural modeling of gender roles. Although Kiara has been exposed to models of gender-linked behavior all of her life, she challenges the “princess culture” and the “glass slipper theory” and identifies herself as a capable and intelligent female who can provide and protect herself in any occasion and does not need a prince charming to save her. The angle of the photo shows us that if we take a closer look, Kiara is a female who “takes charge” and encourages everyone put on his or her “boxing gloves” and challenge the gender schema theory.

I love this picture it’s a great representation of how girls around Kiara’s age should look at all this social media. All this pressure to be more beautiful and more this and more that it’s too much to handle. Girls should look to it as these are the obstacles that I’m going to face but in order to change all these “norms” for being a female I’m going to do what I want and no one can stop me. It’s hard not to follow under the “princess culture” and the “glass slipper theory” but it should be taught to more young girls so they can do and be whoever they want without feeling the pressure.
