Photo and Commentary

From: Ben
In the picture I chose to use two main items. The first item that I had to use was a matchbox car. You know the ones that just about every kid had to have played with at some point or another. This car represents a sense of childhood, and can represent any singular individual’s childhood. This is not only because most have at least heard of a matchbox car, but because it can be seen as a smaller or “Childlike” version of a tool most adults use, motor vehicles.

This brings me to the second item. The second item is that of an average car key, which is a representation of the adult side of this equation. The key is arranged on top of the car, held up by it if anything. It is to point out two valid points. Point one: This toy can be connected to a possible obsession, or pastime that may come later on in life for the child “An absolute love for cars since it was what this supposed boy might have been playing with often.”  For the second point, I need your imagination. Imagine this car, on a narrow highway, and inside is a little kid. Now picture those ever present forks in the road, the ones that will take you to such a variety of places. With every turn, the kid embarks on a different path than he would have, and thanks to his choice of car, he has different roads available to him than other kids his age, while other children have different paths. It is through these paths that change the kid into the adult he becomes. Now we go back to the toys (Yes the keys could technically be an adult toy) but now we see that the child side, is carrying the adult side, carrying it to where it may go, and help it become what it is on the path for. We all need a little bit of the kid in us.
