These are items targeted to young girls trying to shape and mold them into "Society's" image of a woman. From a young age society begins to shape each child regardless of gender. They choose their toys, clothes, personality traits. Yes, in many ways each one of us are different but because of society also, in many ways we are alike. Typically the gender socialization for girls are emotional, more talkative, sensitive, caring and nurturing. On the other hand boys are more closed off , rarely emotional only to show anger, violent and aggressive. Society in my opinion targets young girls the most, it teaches them to solely focus on their appearance. If you are beautiful than you will go far in life no matter your education level. This is another way of silencing women, while they are young society instills in them that they have no real need for knowledge or courage , no need for "a voice" because that is for men. Young girls are given toys like easy bake oven, kitchen sets, baby dolls preparing them to nurture their future husband and children. I read an article discussing "The Glass Slipper effect" discussing how women are just damsels in distress waiting to be rescued by a man. Disney is a prime example of this many of the company's movies are about a beautiful girl, well made up (face) and shaped well who needs a man to save her. This shows young girls that their only real purpose in life is to attract a man so one day he will "save her" and fulfil her purpose in this world, to take care of men and children. In the future I believe we will have very few young girls who grow up to be like Alice Paul (stand up for women, and fight for equality among the sexes) but more girls who would want to be like Nicki Manaj and Kim Kardashian with nice shaped bodies and appealing looks while having no desire to change the world and make it better for future generations.
