I took this photo to show the extreme measures that girls go through to meet the beauty standards that are set for them. Girls are taught at a young age beauty standards, from media and others around them. Magazines show images of “perfect” girls, that are always done up with make-up and their hair done “perfectly”, which are typically photo-shopped but young girls are not aware that they are photo-shopped. So these children get an image of what they feel beauty is and try to maintain these beauty standards. This standards are usually set by these unrealistic photo-shopped magazine images.
The closed door in the background with the make-up and hair products in front suggest that girls feel they must put on make-up and do their hair before heading out into society. While applying make-up girls will use mirrors, she sees not only herself but she sees how society views her. She will fix her make-up multiple times until she feels that it is acceptable for society. Fixing her make-up multiple times takes up a lot of time. Girls put so much time and effort into making sure they meet these beauty standards. They are also spend a decent chunk of money on these products to create the image they want. In the front of the picture there is a straighter, curler, tweezers and eyelash curler these represent the pain that girls go through. It is really easy to burn yourself while using a straighter or curler. Girls go through so much to meet beauty standards that are set by society.
