In the photo listed for this assignment is a picture of a good boy named hawk. His favorite toy is the pink baggy he is wearing on his head as a hat. He loves to take it with him wherever he goes and will even fall asleep cuddling it for comfort. Hawk is a boy dog who’s favorite is a little pink baggy. Typical someone may assume a boy dog to have a toy with boy colors such as blue or red, but color should never be associated with gender. Which dives in to what creative technique I would like to talk which is color and the idea of certain colors being associated to something in this case gender. In the picture someone may assume hawk is a girl dog just based off the fact that he is playing with girly dog toys. Hawk also loves dressing up with his sister in pink sweaters and hats so he can feel involved with his siblings. We should never have to base a gender of the dog on the color of their collar or what kind of clothes they wear. What this says for gender socialization in society is that personality is what decides what you wear and your appearance you choose to take. When we first were dressing up the dogs we dressed up just his two sisters in cute pink dresses and we had a blue hoodie for him. He actually started crying to be apart of his sisters and wanted to also be in a pink dress just like his sisters. Once we put the dress on him he was all smiles that he was accepted with the others wearing his pink dress. I think the way hawk acts breaking gender norms is something society should take in that no matter the gender it is okay to dress, act, and talk as you want ! Hawk helps demonstrate how it is okay to want something that is sometimes seen as socially unacceptable. Breaking these gender norms is how we will make progress as a society to continue to progress in the right direction.
