Media has changed the way children should view their bodies as an adult. The media itself is deteriorating the women culture because so many people are changing their natural bodies for an “Instagram body”. So many children nowadays use technology as their “toys” because the world is evolving, and kids don’t play with toys as much as they did before. In “The ‘Two Cultures’ of Childhood” toys is one of the main points as boys play with more aggressive toys and girls play with more submissive and nurturing toys. Even at a young age from infants to toddlers, kids are gifted tablets to watch shows like CoCoMelon or Mickey Mouse to keep a child’s attention.
My sister, who is pictured in the picture has an Instagram that is monitored by myself and our mom. With her having this type of social media she is introduced to social media influencers such as Nicki Minaj that is pictured. Nicki Minaj is seen with a large butt, slim waist, face full of make up with her hair always done. Whenever she see’s her pictures she always says “she’s so pretty I want my hair like hers” but when seeing a woman with natural hair and no extras she just keeps scrolling with no comment. I’m afraid that when she gets older her “she’s so pretty I want my hair like hers” will turn into “I need to get my body like hers, I need to see a surgeon.”
The creative techniques used in my photo are, symbolism, camera angle and taking up space. Taking the photo from a higher angle shows us looking down giving the impression that we are seeing them as less. I chose this angle position because some girls feel lesser than someone who always has their hair done, body is “picture perfect” and make up is always done. The laptop represents symbolism. Most children use technology to get onto social media platforms and that is what my little sister uses. The last creative technique I used was taking up space. The majority of the picture is my little sister and the laptop which are to the main focuses emphasizing the point that children see social media influencers and “look up to them”.
