Southwest Monitors Women's Clothing

Southwest recently asked passenger Kyla Ebbert to change her clothes before flying with them (she refused to go home and change, so Southwest settled for having her make adjustments to her outfit). Yesterday it happened again. Should Southwest be allowed to set a dress code for its (female) passengers?

I believe that Southwest is way out of line. I don't like how it's up to the discretion of the flight attendants or people on board that day to say what is too much skin. I was especially suprised that it happened from a flight from Vegas to LA, it seems that they would be really liberal. Personally, I would have told them that I wouldn't cover up.

I don't think that it is an airlines place to tell someone how to dress. Unless there are written rules in place that everyone is aware of (which would still be out of line), there is no way that they can control that. I'm also surprised that this occurred with Southwest, an airline that doesn't even have first class or anything.

There has never been a dress code for the airline. High schools have dress codes so they have the right to send someone home for not covering enough up. Southwest never said a girl cant wear a mini skirt. When I heard about this I thought she was wearing something way worse until I saw this video, that is definatly an outfit I would wear! Hot99.5 is doing a contest right now with girls emailing their pictures to them of what they would wear to make them look skimpy and whoever looks the best they are sending on a southwest flight this weekend to see if they can get on the plane and if they can but they cant on the way back the girl gets a shopping spree from the radio station.

Ok after watching the video it looked like she had a short skirt, yes. but there are teenagers out there that wear shorter. there are men that wear shorter shorts. can we ask someone to not get on for smelling bad, bo? bad breath? can we ask someone to not take a baby that is crying on. because to me that would be more distracting than a young lady sitting in her own seat, that she paid money for. school, yes. airlines...come on. I would not encourage my daughter to wear an outfit like this but i have seen worse from people that are fully covered. chains, spikes, beads, lace, see through shirts with other color bras. what about the cammy top, tube tops, and halter tops that are worn. Not good.

Before viewing the video I thought it was going to be a lot worse than it was. Yes her skirt was a little short but what is the big deal. the woman was just going to be sitting in her seat for a few hours. unless her outfit posed some kind of safety issue Southwest had no right to ask her to change in my opinion.

Good point Kshaw, they don't even have first class. I did see her outfit and thought nothing of it. I think it would be inappropriate if she were doing hurdles but she was going to sit for a few hours. What gets me upset is that they confronted her and scared her with the thought of not letting her get to her destination on time and then them changing their mind. So why did she have to go through all that. The flight attendant should have known the dress code already and mentioned it to the person who was complaining.

okay, can i just say this is plain ol' dumb? I myself have worn worse then that in public AND on a southwest flight!! (haha take that!) Shes wearing a sweater for goodness sake! and on the MSNBC video I watched discussing the issue she was showing NO cleavage. Okay, so her skirt is short. Like Bridget said, "there are men that wear shorter shorts. can we ask someone to not get on for smelling bad, B.O.? bad breath?." I can not explain how many times I've gotten stuck to a stinky flight companion. It was especially bad on the flight to Hawaii last year. YUCK! I wouldnt have been surpised if that guy turned to me and said "I like to bathe in four month old bologna before a loooong flight." hahaha. She should fight this. You go girl. Unless a pretty girl wearing a mini skirt in row18 seat B distracts the pilot in the fligthdeck and hes going to crash the plane you have NO right to tell anyone what to wear to fly. :)

I just don't understand at all why the airline would make them change. The way that the passengers dress doesn't effect the airline's bussiness. The only way i would see a flight attendant worrying about what someone is wearing is if another passenger complained, but if it really bothers you so much, say something to them yourself. I don't think the airline should be getting in trouble if it's really other passengers complaining. If not, then i don't see where Southwest would get the right to tell their passengers how to dress if there is no previously stated dress code. It just doesn't add up to me.

WHAT? no OMG i'd like to thought someone other than my mother tryning to tell me what to where. whatever a women chooses to wear is her Decision... it maybe frowned upon but if she wants to draw up that type of attention than so be it... i would understand if she was naked... but i agree that they are out of line!!!

since when has there been a dress code other than for they're empoyees

Southwest is completely out of line! I saw what the women was wearing and it was not bad at all. She was covered up, her breasts were covered, and her stomach was not showing. I see worse on people walking through the mall...and they don't get thrown out of there. Southwest needs to stop worring about what people are wearing...cause as far as I'm concerned as long as you are not walking around naked it shouldn't be a problem with what you have on.

This makes me so mad! I know they are not the first people to dress like that on a flight. I've seen wayy worse. So why did they feel the need to start making people feel like crap about what they choose to wear. I thought both of those outfits were fine. If youre happy with your body and you want to wear a mini skirt then more power to you. I think they both should do something about it. southwest was way out of line and i have to say ballsy to pull that crap in a weeks time or so.

Ok so I saw the video and so what if the skirt was short. She was on a plane. I can understand dresscode policies at school and in the work place but I just fill like southwest is taking it to far.
How fare is it for an airline to say what we can wear now.

I agree that Southwest has no right to say what people (=young women!)should wear on the plane. Unless they write it down and make it a rule, then maybe...

On the other hand, Ladies, are you not COLD on the plane with the AC running like crazy? I always am freezing so bad that carring extra sweater is my rule even if I wear a miniskirt :-D

Southwest airlines has no right to tell the girl to cover herself up. It would be one thing if there were written rules on what not to wear. A lot of girls wear revealing clothes, i am surprised that this doesn't happen all the time especially since her outfit wasn't that bad.

Okay, when I first heard this story I thought maybe this girl would have been wearing a skirt where her crotch was out or her boobs were up around her neck. I've seen girls half her age wear much worse in school and haven't had a word said to them! Seriously now. Not like a person could honestly see up that skirt unless she was spread eagle in the seat, which I highly doubt. I have to agree with the feminist int he video. It was probably someone who was offended by the fact that a regulation hottie, hooters waitress looked better than them...oh god! Southwest, why not spend more time making your plane seats further apart so that the person in front of me doesn't sleep in my lap on the way to Florida, instead of policing a, not so revealing outfit.

What in the world does the fact that she was a hooters waitress have to do with anything??

And honestly, I've seen girls less then half her age wearing much more revealing things... the worst I think being a girl of maybe 8 or so wearing a shirt that said "I've got a honky tonk badonka donk, see back for details?? (I think that's how it spelled?) Granted, the skirt may have been a bit short, but at least it covered her when she sat down. And the top? If that was low cut, then I'm the queen of Sheeba. I've seen girls wear lower-cut tops to church.

And wasn't Southwest the one that kicked the mom and her baby off the plane because the kid kept saying "Airplane go bye-bye" or something like that?

Southwest is out of line they have no right what so ever to tell women how they can and can't dress. If people think that she is showing too much skin then that there problem to deal with and they simply shouldn’t look.

If Southwest has decided to make comments on dress and the way they would likee their passengers to dress it should be towards both male and female. Now for sure women are more likely to ware clothing that some might find more offensive than men but its America and women have the right to dress however they wish.If Southwest should find this to be a problem they should not be a public airline. They should possibly make themselves a private airline that can dictate what their passengers ware but until than Southwest was way out of line in making women change.

I think that is the dumbest thing ever. If you are a paying customer, you should be allowed to wear whatever you want that is legal. Obviously if you break the law because of indecent exposure, then thats a problem. Who is Southwest to tell you what you cant wear? they are just an airline. They arent the fashion police or the FCC of dress code.
