Abortion and Politics

Alicia sent me this article about America's views on abortion. In class last week we talked about the importance of the pro-life vote for the Republican party since the 1980 election. Do you think the abortion debate will be important in the next presidential election?

I would like to see the abortion debate off the table as a general-election issue like the article states might happen. I find it appalling when a presidential nominee who has been either pro-choice or pro-life all HIS life just so happens to change HIS view right before announcing his candidates. What kind of a person changes their view on anything to attract votes?
I am also appalled that someone would videotape an abortion of a 5 month old fetus and put it into a movie-----sounds unbelievably graphic. I had no idea that an abortion at 20 weeks was legal!

It's awful that politicians flip-flop for votes, but it has been done for years. I don't think that it will ever really be settled. You can't really trust the beliefs of the candidates so you have to believe in the voters, and the voters are pretty much even on pro-choice and pro-life. Let's just hope that we don't go back to the "hanger" image.

If abortion is a mojor topic of debate in this election...someone get me an asprin! I'd honestly like to hear topics of discussion relevant to our current situations like my health care, ending vietnam # 2, regulating carbon emissions...etc! As for a flip floping candidate..just don't vote for him! Let's just say in the next primry election I'll be voteing for a democratic progressive who values roe.v wade. Personally I'd like the governement to stay out of my personal affairs as they are supposed to in the first place.

I hope that abortion will be highly debated during this election. There are still many problems surrounding the abortion issue that can not be swept under the rug; legislation related to parental notice, bills related to clinic regulations, just to name a couple. We have given the woman the right to choice abortion, but many clinics fail to give informed knowledge of the consequences of that choice. With the related effects of Post Abortion Syndrome the woman becomes the second victim. The circumstances, which lead a woman to choose abortion, are overwhelming. Often it is a decision that is surrounded by secrecy and shame because in most states there need not be parental notification. I feel these issues further silence woman because of conflicting feelings and confusion, in that women suffer from all the emotional scaring of what society is teaching, that abortion is ok.

I think that the abortion debate will be important in the next election because it is such a huge debate in the US. I feel that one reason abortion is such a large debate in the US is because people aren't educated on this subject. Before the class discussion I would have said that I was pro-life because of how I percieved its meaning. Now that I know the true difference in the two; I would say that I am pro-choice. I think that abortion will always have an impact on the presidential election because the voters want thier president to have the same beliefs as they do. Who's to say which belief is right?

I think abortion is always a big part in the election of president. I know that I personally look at their opinion on the topic. It might not be the thing that I for sure use to select whom I vote for but its a large part. I think the topic of abortion and presidential election all depends on who you are and what you believe is important.I am sure that many more women look at the canidates opinion on abortion than man do. It is an important part of election but like everything else it all depends on what you as the voter believes is important.

I would like to see abortion to stay on the table as a general election issue because I beleive in pro choice. I think abortion is wrong because there is other ways to get rid of your baby through adoption. If you were rapped you could take the morning after pill to prevent pregnancy. Or you could hand it in to the hospital without no questions asked. I was watching Law and Order SVU and this mom put her baby in a dumpster because she was tired of hearing it cry. I think if you dont want a baby use protection.
You have your own views about abortion do let anyone change your mind. Abortion issue is very controversial and very debatable. I just gave my opinion about abortion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I agree with samantha & jessica well everyone. Thats why people have opinions because we are all not suposed to think the same. Goverment should stay out of our public affairs they dont give us money to raise a baby but steadly theres high prices to take care of a child with or without health insurance.I strongly feel that we should make our own choices, exspecially when we've made a mistake.... Who ever decides to have one there living there own punishment...

I think it will be important in the next presidential election. There are two sides to abortions so a president who is for the abortions may get half of the votes on behalf of the people who believe in abortions and the president who is against it will get the half of the votes for the pro choice group.
