Why is it that when a boy plays with a baby doll its seen as weird? But seen as normal when they play with a truck? Exactly there really is no reason at all. That is why I decided to take the picture that I did. Matthew is the youngest child in his family, with an older brother and sister, so he has been exposed to the so-called "boys and girls" toys. As you can see, sometimes he would pick his baby dolls over his trucks, but his neighbor Daylen would not. Daylen on the other hand thinks that dolls are just for girls, and as you can see in this picture, he tries to hand Matthew a truck. It's obvious to children which toy they are supposedly suppose to play with, which is why Daylen tries to get Matthew to play with the right toy. Toys are very gender socialized, how many pink trucks have you seen? And if you have, more than likely it came with a Barbie. But then again, why does Barbie and pink define a girl? Exactly, it doesn't. All of it is fake, but it seems to be running our society. The color of a toy, or the distributors Barbie or Tonka, does not decided which gender plays with
it, but we'll see how long it takes for people to realize this.

In response to Brook’s “Peer Pressure” photo/blog assignment I think that she does make a good point about boys and toys. However, the boy holding the dolls may not be playing with them because he would rather play with dolls over trucks. I have an older sister myself and being a male you would think it is out of the norm for boys to play with dolls. It is looked down upon from many friends of the same age and probably more so the gender. The boy with the dolls appears to not want to share. From the look of it, maybe he is acting this way because his sister never let him play with her dolls, or never let him play dolls with her and her friends. The reason I looked into the family aspect more so over the picture, is because I was in the same scenario as a child. I wanted to play with my sister and her friends but they would play dolls and leave me by myself with no one to play with. They would lock the bedroom door so I could not play with them. I would scream and say I want to play as well but, they didn’t want a boy in their play area. I knew in order to be on their level with playing, I had to play with dolls. I like the idea of this picture in the end because it shows that the boy doesn’t just want to play with what everyone else is playing with, he will also enjoy things he finds interesting. He is a leader, not a follower.
"He is a leader...not a follower." I like that. I think it is strange that when you are young and you are a leader you are seen as weird because you are doing something that not everyone else is doing, but when you are older, those same qualities are commended. I think that its cool that freddie played with dolls. As a kid, all you want to do is have fun and just play, it just shows that in time of need, everyone is capable of breaking down barriers and being them self. I am sure freddie played with trucks too, but hey, playing with both puts you in the best of both worlds. Perhaps playing with dolls at an early age, and playing with girls teaches boys to become more comfortable with them. So for all boys out there, play with dolls, it might teach you some skills that you will need later on in life.
