I have never given much thought to children's Halloween costumes until recently. All of the different costumes available to children is mind-boggling! As I strolled through the local K-mart, I noticed how all of the costumes were either obviously for a little girl or a little boy. All of the costumes for girls were things like fairies,princesses and dancers. The boys had choices like race car drivers. Ninjas and cowboys. Why can't a girl be a race car driver for Halloween? Look at Danica Patrick! Why do all of the costumes have to be so decidedly "male" or "female" You more than likely won't see many boys dressed up as Snow White or girls dressed up as race car drivers or ninjas. If you notice on both costumes- Snow White has a little girl and the race car driver has a little boy. It is as if the costume manufacturers thought they needed to spell it out as to whom they felt should be wearing those particular costumes. Sweet, little girls dressed up as docile, pretty princesses and rough and tumble little boys as a race car driver.

I know exactly what you mean. i never paid much attention to halloween costumes but when i was in Giant taking pictures i realized that all the girls costumes were either princess or fairy costumes or something along the lines of that. Something that would be considered "girly". The boy costumes were either something like spiderman or pirates. Although they did have a pirate costume for a girl it was was way different from the girls. The boys was pants and the girls one had a skirt.
Halloween costumes are really weird. Like Allison, I never payed much attention to costumes until this year when i had to help my girlfriend pick stuff out. She jokingly said that Halloween is the one time a year that dressing like a slut is ok. That got me thinking though. I never noticed before how every girls costume, in the store, had the words sexy, lustrous, or hott before the name. I mean dont get me wrong, I would love to get pulled over by a "sexy cop" sometime in my life, but its weird that guys costumes can be anything, but girls costumes are very generic. I mean the only way a girl can be something on Halloween, and not be a "sexy______" is if they make their own.
