Who Am I?

from: Britannia

This picture shows how much the media can influence young girls today and that beauty products are focused at young girls. I put the little girl looking in the mirrors because she sees all of these different reflections all around her through the media, magazines and cartoons. But at the same time I’m not showing her face directly because I think with all of these different views, it’s hard for the little girl to find herself. I also made sure that I got her finger nails in the picture, because they are painted and they are pink. I also had the little girl brushing her hair to show how important appearance is. I think it’s important to show that even young girls have to worry about what they look like. That it also shows that they are afraid to be different for fear that they will get picked on or made fun of. I also put a little smile on her face because when young girl first start out doing these things they think it fun because they get to be like mom. They are imitating the biggest role model they have. So this picture also asks, what are mothers priorities today.

I chose to comment on this picture because I really like how “real” this is for girls. It is so hard for girls these days to figure out where they belong and who their friends should be let alone the media influencing them too. I think that the multiple mirrors are a good touch because it shows that the little girl is unsure of where to look or in other words who she is. All the makeup and beauty products in the background is also a good touch because it shows that even at such a young age the girl is afraid that she is not going to fit in if she doesn’t look a certain way.

That is alot of make up. If i was a girl, i would be really ugly, i wouldnt know where to begin. The fact that girls this young know about all this is crazy and the number of products multiply the older you get I agree with Britannia, how can a young girl ever know who she really is or fond herself when she has spent most of her adolescence life trying to be something more and trying to look like someone else? With all that makeup on, when do you really see your real face? The comment about her not knowing where to look just goes to show that at that age, they really dont know what they are doing, they are just doing what they think is right.
