My photo is showing gender socialization in young girls. I believe that it shows the extremities girls will go to look like the people they see in the media. The girl in the picture, in my opinion, is a good body size. It's showing how girls, no matter how small, can still feel that they need to fit a certain image. I have included the scale because it shows that even though her image may look good she still feels like she needs to be a certain weight to feel good about herself. The media suggests one body image that girls should be. Many young girls will not feel good about themselves unless they fit that certain body image portrayed in the media.

This image is very powerful because it includes the three elements that society judges girls/women by and it is the yardstick by which those girls/women will judge themselves over their entire lives. Their reflection, the flatness of their stomach and their weight. The image impact is greater because it does not show her face.

This picture portrays an accurate image of how most young girls feel about their body image. Our culture has created such narrow stereotypes that most people, even unconsciously abide by. The media is also to blame for this obsession that women have with their bodies and having to look a certain way because thats what so called beauty means. Self image becomes a priority at a young age and the majority of young girls do worry about how they look. This reoccurring problem of low self esteem in girls can be attributed to the societal expectations that a forced upon you everyday.
This picture really expresses how girls always find a way to find something wrong with their body even though to others they may look great. Everyone has insecurities, but some take it to an extreme. Throughout generations the beauty image has changed, but now girls are seen in the media as being too skinny. GIrls have alot to deal with because they are constantly surrounded with images that cause them to think that they could look better. It is a never ending goal that many girls try to achieve.
I agree with kat, it judges girls based on their body parts with no face attached to it. Its easy to not have sympathy for something if it doesnt have a face. Take eating meat for example, moswt people would be vegetarians if they had to be the one who killed the cow. But these body parts are no different, they are looked at as item or meat because the face has no value anymore. Women as a whole arent valued because we objectify their body parts for entertainment. And if girls too only see body parts they forget about looking at themsleves as a whole, which is what the girl in the picture is doing. She has forgotten that beauty is the sum of all the parts.
