Love Pink...or Not‏

from Arcadia
This is photo of a girl shopping in the very popular Victoria’s Secret PINK store. PINK represents everything society thinks a girl should be. Feminine, dainty, and overly sexualized. I chose to take this picture in the PINK store because the whole store is literally pink. Pink is known to represent a girl. The shirts and the panties above on the mannequins, represent how “flirty” and “coy” society thinks women should be while still being sexual, just not in an obvious way. The girl in the middle is wearing black because it represents her feeling out of place. She is holding the shirt and looking into the camera because it represents her struggling to decide whether she should give in to society’s standards of femininity or just be herself. She wants to be accepted but not if it means losing herself in the process. While I was in the store taking the picture I noticed a lot of younger girls (between 6-12) running in the store and talking about how PINK is the, “Ultimate” store for girls and that every girl should wear PINK. This picture shows one of the many ways girls learn how they should act or in this case dress. This picture associates being a girl with the color pink, sexually suggestive clothing, and super padded push up bras for teenagers.
