All Grown Up

from: Stacey

Riley is a 4 year old little diva who loves to be like everyone she sees on TV. She was trying to look like Hanna Montana in this picture as she was putting on her Lip gloss. I see this in her all of the time trying to act 'all grown up'.

In this picture, by looking this little girl into the mirror represents all different things in the society. By looking through glass she is assuming the role of another person, how she appears to other people, it also shows the sense of self which is drive from the perceptions of others .First of all I think this little girl looks into the mirror to see if she is attractive or unattractive, heavy or slim and so on. Secondly, by looking she into the mirror shows the interrelationship between the individual and society, in other words society shapes the people right from the beginning.

I think this picture says alot. It shows us that not only are girls prone to perfect their body image later in life but is also starts as young as 4! It also says that instead of loving your age, little kids tend to rush their childhood because they really want to be "grown up" and think that being a little kid is a bad thing.I believe that society has a great affect on this behavior. In stead of talking to the little kids and telling them to enjoy their childhood, we actually buy the items *such as lip gloss, and dolls* to help*hurry* their childhood.

This is a great picture. Already she is looking over herself and critiquing. What's good? What's bad? What isn't up to par? What can be fixed? At such a young age she's picked up on "appearance is everything", even if she doesn't consciously realize it yet.

This little girl is critiquing what she see’s, right? She is looking through the mirror taking on the role of another person, ‘checking’ her self out. She is wearing her pop teen star tee-shirt and her little jeans, but she is clearly looking at herself in a way to see what is wrong and what is right. This is all starting at such a young age, Rylie is four!!! What has this world come too?

It is unfortunate that the young girl defines adulthood with lip gloss. Sadly, our society teaches young girls that being a woman means wearing lip gloss, blush, eye shadow and high heels. She identifies herself with Hannah Montanna, a fifteen year old girl. The girl in the photo does not see Hannah as she is; a young girl. She sees her as a woman because she wears lip gloss, blush and eyeshadow. This young girl represents all the girls around the world who have distorted idea of womanhood. This distortion is due to the socialization of girls and how society takes advantage of how impressionable these young girls are.

It's a crying shame that society places pressure on children to become older or more grown up then they are. When you are young you are always trying to be older yet when you are old you are always trying to be younger. To put it in perspective you are only considered a child until you are 18. The average life expectancy is 80. Therefore the time you are considered a child is less than a 1:4 ratio. Why spend all your time trying to be grown up when you'll be grown up for most of your life. This picture just goes to show that at a young age kids already feel the pressure to be something or someone they are not. Youth is a beautiful thing and it's sad that kids want to rush it at such a fast rate.

I think that the picture shows you how little girls want to look and act older and why they look in the mirror or even add their lip-gloss. I just don’t think this picture shows or tells you much.
