In this picture, these seven girls are on their senior retreat. They have been friends for their whole high school career at a
Catholic, private, all girls high school. They have grown closer together, made many memories and gotten through many disagreements and arguments. The retreat was very motivational making this small group eager to start college, gain more responsibility and come closer to living in the "real world". The group knows that there are endless possibilities ahead in their bright and quickly approaching future. They are full of excitement to move on, yet full of fear of the up coming challenges. Even though they are all going in separate ways, the girls will always have each other there to support and love them no matter what. They stand holding hands, showing their friendship and support while looking forward to their future. The picture is taken from the back, representing the past which is looking at the girls while they look only forward to what their future may hold. The group does not turn back to look at the past. The picture was enhanced slightly using photoshop creating more of a contrast to make the grass (the path which they walked on) and the sky (representing their future) brighter. The sides of the photo are darkened to bring more focus to the girls. Their path was lit by their wonderful high school years which included a great education, a strengthening of their faith in religion and wonderful lasting friendships and confidence in themselves.

I think this is a very powerful picture that portrays a great message. I love that the girls are looking out into their future of "endless possibilities" ahead, yet still knowing that they have each other. I think it is extremely important in any teenager's life to have a strong school education to fall back on, but, just as importantly, also a strong group of friends and family. It seems as though this school that the girls went to was a great environment for them to get to know themselves and become strong young women before going out into the "real world," and that is very important in society today. Because of their love and support through their four high school years, they are able to be more confident, intellectual, incredible young ladies -- less likely to have self-esteem issues, distorted body images, etc. Faith is also an important anchor that holds them together, both as a group and as an individual. Many girls today that have issues with self-esteem, body image, self control, or anything of the sort, have some type of background that lacks some of those important elements. Which is why I think emphasizing friendship, faith, family, support, education and love is key to become a successful and confident young woman.
