My Mom Taught Me

from: Mike

Socialization of gender is influenced as early as birth if you think about it, the first words the doctor says when a child is born is "it's a boy or it's a girl." Also just so there is no confusion we dress our children in a color that would associate with the gender of the baby. That being said I took this picture to portray the image of two young girls trying to be a so called "princess". They were probably taught this by there mothers. I had the girl in the front wear a bold color top and made sure the red was showing in the straightener for a focus point to my picture. I wanted this to be the focus point mainly to make sure the person sees the straightener and to draw more attention to her rather than the other girl. I didthis because I wanted to show that the girl in the back knows she's pretty and doesn't have to try to dress up and straighten her hair to look gorgeous. But she's not dressed down too much to show off herself as well too though. The girl in the front is also holding the iron and is making a face that says "I can do it myself," she is afraid the girl in the back might mess it up and it won't be perfectly the way she wants it.This is what I think most girls her age right now are going through in there lives. Teenagers now a days are adopting ways of beauty and the dealing with pressure of there peers are making them "mature" faster.

teh picture depicts how girls think alike and relate to one another. The girls in the picture seem to be having fun in each other's company.
