The media has a very strong affect on teenagers and how they view themselves. This picture shows that this teenager is thinking about whether or not she should change her hair color to blonde. The media makes teenage girls think that they need to be skinny, with big boobs, blonde hair, white teeth, perfect skin and wear make-up to be beautiful. I put many pictures of models around the mirror to represent that this girl is comparing herself constantly to them. If you look closely you see that one of the pages up on the mirror is on how to get better abs. Also there is a teeth whiting kit on the dresser. These things were placed to show that this girl is trying to improve herself not only by changing her hair color, but in all sorts of ways to look like these models. Another thing is that her face in the mirror is blurry this is to represent that she doesn’t see herself as others do. She only sees the negative in herself. She thinks she isn’t beautiful and needs to change her hair color and improve her abs and teeth. But her family and friends see her as a beautiful young teenager growing into a woman.

I think this picture represents perfectly how our society’s teenagers look at themselves. This girl is clearly not satisfied with the way she looks, and how others may view her. The fact that she is considering making her hair drastically that much lighter is something many of our teenage girls think of doing. I think that it goes to show how much our society may view blonds as sexier, prettier, and more feminine looking. With all the magazines she appears to read she probably just wants to look like the pretty blond models and celebrities. It looks like she may have curly hair, and I see a blow-dryer and brush which leads me to believe she straightens her hair. In our society having “stick straight” hair seems to be more beautiful and desirable by many girls and women. That is probably because there are not many celebrities and models that have curly hair or they straighten it. The box of teeth whitener may not be terrible, but what exactly is she whitening at such a young age? Besides, all of the pictures of the media are air brushed anyhow. The picture of the abs workout is a bit bothersome because she seems to be a slender and in shape teenager. Her having that picture represents she is not happy with her weight and probably wants to be “model thin”. Lastly, the photographer blurred her face in the mirror which leads me to think she is really struggling with her identity. Young girls and women in our society are brought up to think “beautiful” is found on the pages of magazines or on the television. When in fact most of the models look the same, what is so beautiful about everyone looking like each other? This picture reminds me of how so many people lose their individuality trying to be what our society views as “normal” and “beautiful”.
This picture shows how many young girls are pressured into doing things they don’t really want to do but they do them because they think that is the only way to be beautiful. You can tell that she is struggling with the decision. She probably likes her hair the color it is, but from the images she gets from the media she thinks that in order to be even more beautiful she has to be blonde. In all of the photos from the magazine that she has on her mirror, most of the girls are skinny with blonde hair. From having those photos there she is reminded everyday what the media says is beautiful and she is trying to be that way, even if it means changing herself. The media portrays the image of a beautiful girl as only being skinny and blonde. And for most girls they try to be like that, so that they are considered to be beautiful. In this picture it shows that girl are willing to do a lot of things to be beautiful according to the media even if they don't want to or if that like the way they are now they are even willing to change that just to be beautiful in the way the media says to be beautiful.
I think this picture is a great representation of how many young teenage girls look at themselves on a daily basis. "Well, does my make-up look ok?" "Why can't I have hair like Amanda Bynes?” “I wear a size 6, so that means I’m fat.” The pressures society puts on young girls today is absolutely horrible. I like the fact that her face was blurred to show that she can’t accept that she is truly beautiful, I know a lot of girls in today’s day and age feel that way. It used to be that a compliment could brighten up your day, but it seems like now it makes it worse because society has taught you to convince your self you are not good enough and you never will be until you look a certain way, aka a model. But I also think that its getting to be the point of where even just looking like a model is not enough because you are NOT a model. What’s funny is this picture is suppose to show medias effect on girls and the first thing that comes to mind is the very popular show Americas Next Top Model. Most of those girls are extremely beautiful and I know even they have self esteem issues because sometimes not having the right expression with your eyes can make or break them and they will feel like they are not ever going to be good enough. What really sticks out in this picture to me is the fact she is in a tank top and that in the mirror her arm looks extremely skinny, it looks like she has a stance that would make her appear thinner and in that making her feel better about herself. All in all I think this picture portrayed the message very clearly that media has an immense effect on girls images of themselves.
This picture definitely represents how the media affects young girls today. Most women and girls in the world are not satisfied with their appearance. Even though we know most of all the pictures that we see of these women are touched up and edited by computers, we still try so hard to look like them. It’s unhealthy for girls to be so conscious about what they look like. They could become depressed or feel like they just want to hide from the world. This girl only seeing the negative things about herself in the mirror represents almost all of the girls that look in the mirror. Everyone pin points the things they don’t like about themselves. Even the girls in the magazines that we try to be like, even they have things they hate about themselves. It shows that no matter how pretty some people are they are still not statisfied.
I agree with all 4 of these comments. this picture represents how our society's teenagers and young women look at themselves. this girl is clearly not satisfied with the way she looks, you can she that by how she is holding the hair dye and how she has all those magazine clips around her mirror about make-up, hair, and how to get flatter abs, and a better body.
with all the media this girl watches and the way her friends act, she has to try to change the way she looks to fix into the world that people are telling her how she should look, and what she should wear. i like how the girl face you cant really see in the mirror giving her a after of not knowing who she really is. Which girls today have to learn they are pretty with out changing their looks to fix in with the media.
I think that is blog is true when it says that the media portrays a beautiful woman as large breasted, blonde haired, has white teeth and nice skin. And the fact that a lot of teen age girls try to be like that is completely true too. Not only in reality do girls dye their hair, bleach their teeth, and go tanning but in the media you always see the younger celebrities changing their hair color, having perfectly white teeth, and perfectly tan skin. Those girls are said to be 'role models' to little girls when they themselves are tainted by the media and cannot be their natural selves to begin with.
As a girl who has died her hair plenty of times i have to admit I have looked through fashion magazines and have gotten ideas for hairstyles and colors. but i also didnt do this to look like the girls in the media, I did it because I like to change my look because I feel I can wear anything and feel comfortable in it and dont care what society has to say about it.
This shows what girls have to go through to achieve beauty. Using dye to color your hair and having pictures up to boost your inner self are just some of the things that I see in this photo. I think it portrays what you girls do to try to improve their looks and the pictures are to have someone or something to look up to.
I love how the girls image reflecting back at her in the mirror is distorted. This really is a problem that young girls deal with today. They over anaylize their flaws, and think they need to look like images in magazines for others to see them as beautiful. In fact, beauty is not just skin deep, and the magazines cannot portray pictures of beauty within so girls have to focus on athesthetic beauty as a result. There seems to always be a feeling of not being good enough.
once again we see a teenager that wants to change her haircolor. this should not be happening. these girls are so young and to think that they are not likeing the way they look or are unhappy with their body is so sad.
In this picture the girl has cut outs of beautiful celebrities all around her that she wishes she could become. Every day, more and more girls become entrapped in the media's cluth of what they preceive perfection to look like. The girl in the picture is contemplating changing her appearance to make her feel better about herself. The way that she holds herself, does not show that she has too much self-esteem. Only half of her face shows, hiding the girls insecurities. Thinking to herself: "Am I pretty? What do I need to do to look like all the skinny beautiful girls out there?"
