Girls Can Skate Too

From Jamie

I'm always hearing how girls are as strong, touch, and as good as the boys, what really how true is that? Not at all there is so many great girl/woman athletes out there that are as great or even better then the boys! If you can't tell in this photo but that is a girl in the white, taking the face-off against a boy! Guys are known for their tough guy image and that i'm so much better then others, but please its getting old and to the point were you want to see a girl bet a guy. I have been to hockey games were people in the stands even adults yelling GET the girl Get her, knock her down! Why is it that its acceptable for guys to bet up on girls just because they are better than them! Also you also see images of girls figure skating and all glittered up, and would think hockey isn't for girls.

Im gonna comment on my own first because i read over what i wrote and it didn't come out the way i wanted it to be, in this photo is a girl hockey player who i know and is one of the better players out there, but she always get discrimination on because of her gender so doesn't always get the top team because the parents of the guy players even their mothers are complaining how their son lost their spot on the team because of the girl, and if they don't get on the team they are leaving the club, but isn't club sports is whoever is the best will make the tops teams, usually but in this case cuz she is a girl she gets looked at differently, but she shoudnt because she is better then half of the guys i know who play hockey.

I gonna comment on the photo saying that, this is a good picture and true that no boy wants to be beaten by a girl in anything including sports. But I see in the picture that it show only one girl and two boy. Showing that she is really alow in this sport I relly like that.

The girl is centered well, the smallest figure, dwarfed by three antagonists in this team game of ice hockey. She is framed well by the other figures. The female is outlined with the males, her opponent, the male referee, and the other male player. The camera angle makes the three males larger than the lone female. In a nontraditional role, she is being swallowed up in the male-dominated sport. Her opponent’s back is to the camera and he appears larger. The right side of the picture is commanded by the large arm and flank of another player. The lone arm’s hand is made massive by the protective gear. The subjects stand out against the expanse of white ice. The angles of the three heads are interesting: two males over the one female, with the referee over the two opponents facing-off, showing his dominance over them. Notice the line around the ice rink, the girls head is the only one well below the line, sub-par. All the males are against her, no teammates behind her, lending support. She is like the adolescent David, poised and ready to battle against the giant, Goliath and the Philistine army.
