As a girl, there are certain ways that society pictures us to be. Young girls these days are looking up to girls and women in magazines trying to imitate the image of beauty. Fitting the beauty image in magazines is hard because all the girls and women have the same body type which is super skinny. Some people say that beauty isn’t about what you look like, but what’s inside that really counts. If this is true, then why do all the girls on television and magazines look the same? In magazines you read about how someone collapsed because they lost too much weight or that someone gained weight and they look really bad. It’s a battle out there for young girls growing up, because if they don’t exactly fit the image of beautiful they feel like they are ugly and not the same as everyone else. There’s a big impact on little girls trying to be like all these supermodels when they should just be worrying about having fun and being kids.
Isabella, who is only eight, is putting on make-up to try to look like one of the girls in the magazine she has next to her. She dropped her toys behind her to focus on what she looked like.

This picture is a perfect example showing the socialization of gender in children. This little girl was sucked into the corrupt world that almost every young girl is in. Children think, from a really early age, that it is appropriate to look good. They are influenced by, just like in the picture, magazines and the things they see on television. But more than likely her parents allow this and praise her saying “aww, look at little Isabella getting all dressed up and pretty.” Then the child thinks they are doing well and are doing right. Even look at her toys, they are definitely toys that only a girl would play with, a little doll with pink hair and a pink horse. They were probably given to her by a parent based on the fact that they have a little girl and pink is appropriate and now the little girl will absorb this and think pink is for girls. When really any color can be liked by anybody. Having children socialized like this will corrupt the child for the rest of their lives and they may not be the person they really are and be trapped, always feeling stressed because they are worrying too much about their image.
