One of the things we will be looking at in our first unit is inequality in the United States. Cornell University designed a "Inequality Quiz" to measure how much you know about inequality. Take the quiz here.
How did you score on the quiz? Did any of the answers surprise you?

So I just took the quiz and recieved a 7 out of 12!! I can't really say I was surprised by some of the answers because i pretty much just guessed for everything!!However, the only one that did surprise me was the one dealing with the sexual harrassment cases filed in a year after the law passed!!! I would think that there should be less cases filed for sexual harrassment after a law is passed pertaining to actual sexual harrassment but to my surprise there were more cases filed.
I thought that I did terribly on this quiz (3 out of 12), but according to the "Inequality Quiz Histogram" I got the same amount of right answers as 15.4% of quiz takers (the 3rd highest percentage). Alot of the answers did suprise me. Like the one on sexual harrassment. I can't believe that many cases were filed. However, the 3 I did get right didn't really suprise me at all.
I got 7 out of 12. I was excited to get so many correct and 1 other I got wrong would have been right had I gone with my first instinct.
I think some of it was common sense, especially in regards to the wages for everyday people and the wealthy. It seems to be the theme of our country.."the rich get richer and the poor get poorer". I was not surprised at the difference in men and women salaries but surprised it was more than I thought. All in all I was pleased to see that I scored higher than 79.4% of quiz takers
I just took the quiz and scored 3 out of 12...I had a hard time really gussing the percent changes. On a few questions the change was so high and others very minimal. I liked however the gap in male vs female wages moved closer together because I believe that women deserve the same pay as men. Hopefully in the future that gap will continue to decrease.
i just took the quiz and got a 5 out of 12. i basically guessed on all of them. it was interesting to see the poverty rate and how high it was in the US. we are trying to go into other countries to fix them when we need help ourselves.
When I took the quiz I got 6 out of 12, which is not that bad considering that I do not really know much about the history of inequality. I guess on some of the questions and the ones i guessed on I was checking the one that would surprise me most, and they did. Some of the statistics opened my eyes. For example, how many students that graduated from a 4 year college was only 36% and 17% of individuals under 18 were in poverty.
going over the quiz it surprised me how much i never really thought about any of these percentages...these questions were never really in my everyday thoughts but i feel like now that i know these numbers exist that i should be more concerned with them
I got 4 out of 12 questions correct. I was so surprised that the graduation rate was that low for college students. I thought that the amount of people getting degrees would have been much higher. I also was surpised with the sexual harrassment clams increasing. I think that people are starting to realize that they will recieve help if assaulted not criticized.
I was really surprised to find that I only answered 2 questions correctly. I didn't know a lot about the questions asked and a bunch of times it was a toss up for me between the answer that ended up being correct and the one that I chose. Several people, including myself were surprised to see the number of cases filed for sexual harassment but once I thought about it, it made more sense.
I received 5 out 12 and am not surprised because i rarely watch the news to keep up. unlike a few others, i was not surprised by the sexual harassment numbers, because an increase makes sense because so many more women are in the workforce. i just realized that the answers i got right are about issues i am concerned about. thank you
When i took the quiz i had a very hard time trying to figure out what the % were going to be. Actually the first time that i took the quiz i exited it thinking that i was going to be really graded on it.
I just took the quiz and I received a 6 out of 12. I guess it's not that bad. But I was surprised at how the numbers had not really changed for the better since the 1960's and 70's. Most of them indicated that they had actually changed for the worse. It was surprising and really makes you think about these things.
I received a 3 out of 12 on the quiz. I wasn't very surprised about my score, I was surprised with the questions and the answers because I had never really thought about all of that. The sexual harassment one surprised me the most out of everything.
