Make-up

From Chelsea

I took a picture of my own make-up to symbolize girls and what they want to look like. Many girls wear make up so that's why I decided to take a picture of it. There is a picture of make brushes and foundation that you can wear. I took the picture to symbolize girls and how they portray themselves. Many girls today wear make-up and that is why I took the picture. But why do girls feel like they need to wear make up in the first place? It is most likely because they want to feel better about themselves and it boosts their confidence. That is why I took a picture of make up to describe gender socialization.

Make up is a huge part of our media. It tells women if they don’t like something about themselves, just dab something on it- and it will be fixed. This picture is realistic because there are different brands in the basket, and women try time and time again to find the perfect shade or mascara. The walls are pink and that shows that make up is something feminine and something only that women deal with.

Many girls do wear make-up, especially at young ages. I believe it is to make them feel older, because this is what many young girls want. “To be older.” A lot of make-up does cover up how girls betray themselves. It’s almost as if they are ashamed of their self. But what are they ashamed of? You are who you are, this is what you’re supposed to be. Not what you want yourself to look like. Everyone is made a certain way for a certain reason, so why try to change yourself?

Although there is an excelent point how many girls wear too much make-up, i believe this picture lacks what is given in the discription. I think that make-up can be both creative and positive things. Not everyone is necessarily trying to look like other than themselves, but just to simply enhance their own beauty. Women of all ages use it, even guys. I think make-up is perfectly fine, just used in moderation. : )

Makeup makes up a huge part of the media, especially in magazines and television commercials. It is advertised on tv so much so women get it in their heads that they need it to look beautiful like the models on tv. It also makes younger girls feel older. i know when i was younger my parents didn't want me wearing to much makeup. I was defiant because i wanted to seen as being older and pretty.

From a very young age we girls are socialized to think that we need to wear makeup, whereas boys do not; this picture reveals that. When you wear makeup you feel older, which makes boys like you more, which will then lead to you being happy; this is what society has made women think. If you don’t wear any makeup, typically people don’t think you are very pretty and definitely don’t think that you care about your appearance which, to them, lessens your value as a person. So therefore, women have to wear makeup in order to be successful even though men do not.
