In this picture I show Dakoda, a 4 year old who loves to use disguises. He portrays a "typical boy" who plays with action heroes all the time. Action heroes are the most popular toys for boys. They are said to be "strong and heroic." Watching Dakoda play I noticed the difference in his attitude while wearing the mask and gloves. He took on the role of the superhero whose
mask and gloves he was wearing. While capturing this photo I just thought it was cute that he was trying to be so tough. But
then I realized it was more than that, which he wanted to be the real thing. Trying to be the "tough guy", just like the superhero gave Dakoda a whole new side of being a boy. It made him want to be in charge and to be unstoppable. All boys at different ages try to be something that they are not. Superheroes are animated characters who all children think are real. Movies and television are the biggest factor in socializing children of any age. They portray the ideas of boys that they need to be strong just like their favorite characters are. Little boys look up to others as a way of learning. As a way of seeing the world.
My intention of this photo was to portray a "typical boy". There is no intentional background in this photo for a reason. I wanted the whole photo to be centered on a young boy whose imagination is bigger than him. Children learn through their and others imagination.

I thought this photo was a good idea because all boys love to dress like super hero's. You rarely see them in dresses unless there in daycare centers or have a sister. This photo shows him using his imagination with the hang signs he is making trying to act like a "cool" guy or even tough. Boys seem to try to take on the roles of super hero's when they dress like this to put on a show for themselves and actually think they have powers.
I think this photo shows that costumes give boys a different kind of persona. They feel tougher, more masculine, and better about themselves. It is a good self-esteem booster. Some times kids feel a intimidated by others especially younger kids first stating out in pre-school or kindergarten because its a new environment and to counteract their true feelings, the costume gives them this feeling of I can be this big super hero!
I always see boys dressing up as super hero's. It makes them feel powerful and i think they learn this from tv and video games. It makes them feel tough like they see the characters in the media. I think that when they put on this character they like to act tough and show off. I've seen many of my neighbors who are young boys do this.
The media plays a big part in the development of our young, this Spiderman costume is just one way that the boy in this picture will be influenced by the media during his life. Another thing that I gathered from this photo is that from such a young age boys are being conditioned to think that they need to be tough.
This photo is a good example, showing how men and even little boys try to act “tough”. Boys mimic those they see on TV acting like something that they are not. A lot of boys may copy Superheroes whether because it is how they are talking, acting, or what they are wearing, so they can disguise themselves. Many think acting “tough” shows that you fear nothing and also allowing you to gain respect. So is pretending to be someone other than youself really worth it?
I like this photo becaue it shows the imagination of a young male child..my nephews do the same things,,,imagination is important but we also know that boys play with boys things and girls with girls things...that is learned at ayoung age but it is also important..i like how the photo shows mainly the little boy because it is his world and he is the biggest part of it according to him
this picture definately potrays a "typical boy". Boys love to dress up and be like their favorite action figure, or their favorite super hero. He is definately using his inagination just like all little boys do. This picture is really fun and its a good example of reality
This photo definitely represents almost all young boys of this age. It shows how boys learn to be tough and intimidating from a very young age. Even though they may be wearing a costume, it is still the boy doing the actions of and poses to make himself look tough and strong. I like this photo because it portrays all of these concepts, by showing the little boy growling at the camera.
This photograph is good evidence of the disguise that boys have to put on at a young age. They must mask their real feelings and be tough and heroic. Icons for little boys such as superman and action figures probably socialize little boys to think that they always have to come off this way.
This completely buys into the tough guy stereotype. This implies messages about what it means to be a man. This shows little boys how to behave in society and how to treat other boys, and girls. Its a bad image to send out because being tough doesn't result in positive outcomes.
