We have been watching a film about the extraordinary efforts suffragists took to get women the right to vote.
The second picture shows how sick the women were when they were finally released.
Did you learn about this story in elementary or high school?

Read this article about Alice Paul's efforts to get women the vote. If you had been alive at the time, do you think you would have been a suffragist? Do you think you would have been able to go on a hunger strike?

I know I would be a suffrigist, without a doubt. Also, I would hope to be as strong and brave as Alice Paul in jail.
I would have been a suffragist. I did not learn about Alice Paul in high school. I did not learn much of anything in high school! Sad truth. Hunger strike, all I can say is wow! I have never been faced with liberty or death, so it's hard to say what I would truly be capable of. I would hope that I could find the courage.
I'm sure I would have been a suffragist...now. Yes, I'm sure everyone says "Yeah, I'd do it!" But we know what resulted from their fight, they didn't. They had to be not just brave, but hopeful. I never knew what those women went through and I don't understand why it isn't as big of a deal as other past EXTREME issues.
I never learned about the suffragist in highschool or elmentary school this is the first time hearing about it period which i think is sad because these women were so brave and survived amazing events. I think i defintally would have been a suffragist if i lived back then becuase these women were so united in their descion to stand up for all women. I think that the hunger strike was such a brave act but i dont think i would have been able to do what they did.
I never learned about the suffragist in my elementary, middle, or high school career. I defiantly would have been a suffragist but I would not have been as brave as Alice Paul. The things she and her followers went through were horrific. I am greatful for these woman who took a stand, it is because of them that woman today have the right to vote and are more respected.
I don't think I would have a suffragist because I would be scared to lose my husband and children and have nothing left but my rights. In my opinion, being healthy and sage if more important than having rights. I rather be with my children than out on the street or starving myself. If I was already on my own then, I would definetly been a sufragist.
This is my first time reading about Alice Paul... I would like to think that I would have the courage like her to stand up for i believe as much as she did. I really believe we should be learning more about women like this in school.
This is the first I have learned of womens suffrage. I think more time in elementary school should be spent learning about womens history. I think that I would have been a suffragist if I were alive at that time, however I'm not sure i would hold out on a hunger strike. I would have the courage but most likely would not last.
I would have most deffinetly been a suffragist if I lived in this time period. Woman are just as equal as men, and to be denied of privleges that men have is wrong. Alice Paul is a very strong woman, she faught for what she believed in not only for her sake but for the sake of all woman. In high school I never learned about Alice Paul, but now that I have I absolutly admire all of her work during the first wave of feminism as a radical. Although I believe in everything she did, I personally don't know if I would have been strong enough to go on a hunger strike, health is a big factor. I guess I won't ever know since I won't be in that position.
I didn’t learn much about the feminist movement in high school. This is the first times I have learned anything about Alice Paul and her efforts for the feminist movement. It’s hard to say what I would have done if I was alive in those days. In the movie that we watched in class, it showed how the men and even other females treated these women. They were very intimidating and almost scary. I don’t know if I would have been able to stand up to that every day of my life. I definitely do not think that I would have had what it took to go on a hunger strike. That takes an incredible amount of strength that I don’t know I would have been able to have found. I think that I might have been for the feminist movement but I don’t think that I would have been able to be outspoken and go in front of others.
