My photo represents the influence and relationship the media has on children. The four year old boy in my photo is staring directly towards the television, hiding his face and being somewhat hypnotized by its blur of colors. Which is why, I choose to take the photo from a low angle to show how children look up to the television, just as they would to an older sibling. However, in my photo there is no specific program on the television, just a blur of colors. I believe this shows the true relationship between a child and the television. For instance, no matter what is being broadcast on the television, a child will most likely follow its lead. Also, the young boy in my photo is wearing his Power Rangers costume, a well known television program aimed towards children; majority of them boys. So, knowing that information, we can determine that the young boy has already been influenced by the media in some way or another. I left a space of the floor between the camera and the child to show a resemblance of distance between a parents and children. For instance, a parent does not have much control over the influence media has on their children and basically has to stand back and watch. I also took the photo at a skewed angle, where the boy looks to be standing straight while the television is slanted, showing how the media is unstable. However, it is still used to entertain and teach children. Overall, I believe my photo to shows a great description ofthe relationship and influence the media has with children.

After reading Jess’s explanation of her photo I understand the photo a lot better. I do feel as though the position of the camera is like the boy is looking up to TV/media. The fact that the picture is blurred on the TV makes me feel as though the relationship to the boy and the show is distorted. Also the fact he is wearing the power rangers outfit shows a big impact the media has on kids. Power rangers are a major influence on young boys because it is a popular show on now and days. The boy standing so close to the TV makes me think the more the impact media has on him. The camera being so far away could be symbolizing reality and the television is the distorted version of reality.
After evaluating the photo and the explanation “A Blurred Vision” I knew what she was trying to portray. Television and the media has a huge impact on children, they look up to the characters or actors on their favorite shows. For example, how he’s wearing a power rangers outfit shows that he admires them and wants to be like one of the Power Rangers. It was good how she positioned the camera in order to have the child looking up at the television showing that he looks up to it and that he was physically looking up at it. Also, the little boy is fixated with whatever he’s watching that it is representing control over him. I thought that having the television blurry was representing how kids really don’t understand the meaning of some shows and that they’re representing complete fantasies and distorted realities. Which makes the little boy completely naïve, yet he’s still looking up to it because it’s the media and the culture that he’s being exposed to.
Television and media can really be what young people look up to. They wanna be like these people that they see on their tv screens. They wanna look like these people. Also, they wana have the power that these people on television have.
TV, the most powerful force in the world, stronger than a nuclear bomb. TV can shape entire nations for entire lifetimes. In his power ranger costume he is conforming to what the television shows he's watching tells him is normal.
