Girl in the Mirror

from: Maggie
In my photo a young girl is checking the measurements of her waist in her bedroom mirror. This picture shows how much the media affects the view point of a young teenage girl and how she thinks her body should look. Her mirror has photos of "perfect body" around it to show that she is inspired to be more like the women she sees in magazines. Her innocence is covered by the photos of the women on her mirror. In the bottom of the photo there is a stuffed animal and her room is very pink and girly, meaning that the girl is still young and still very much a child and vulnerable to what she sees in the media. The measuring tape shows that the girl is self conscious and is not happy with the way she looks. The media is giving the teenager the wrong idea about beauty; you don't have to have a skinny body to be beautiful. The girl in the mirror is already petite, but aspires to be more like the older, more developed, skinny women. While she is measuring her body you can tell she is sucking in to make the measurement even smaller, and to boost her self confidence. Teenagers should not be pressured into having the bodies they see in magazines because they are unrealistic. I chose to do this image because I believe that this idea is a real issue and a problem for teenage girls, they think that they need to be more like the beautiful women they see in magazines, but they could potentially hurt themselves in the process.

This photo helps show people that the girls are more worried about their images than other things. The pictures on the mirror describes that their are poeple out there that make it work being skinny but those are only very select view and most harm their body.

yeah this happens everyday girls are always trying to fit into smaller sizes and think to themselves that they are fat if they cant fit into a small size.

This girl is looking at her body and judging it. She is most likely comparing it to women that she sees on tv which is very unreasonable to look like those woman. Because of todays media girls have this idea in their heads of how they should look and it makes them feel very self concious about themselves.

This photo describes the ways in which girls compare themselves to other girls in ways that may even be unhealthy. This young girl measures herself seeing how wide her waist is, thinking it may not be thin enough, when in reality shes already a small size as it is. And sometimes young girls dont see that in themselves.
