Hard Working Little Girl
from:Shelby
As a little girl, you play with toys such as a kitchen set, a vacuum, or an Easy Bake Oven; you're programmed into thinking that in life, these things are associated with being a female. I took this picture to show that this little girl is being programmed to think that she is supposed to do thehouse work or the barn work in this case instead of the yard work. In the earlier years, women were subjected into doing the cleaning, and the barn work instead of the hard things like farming or building. I used the cow instead of a vacuum or a kitchen set because even though men or boys think this is easy work, it's still hard, just like cleaning the house or cooking dinner. I messed up her hair a little to prove this point, that even though the girls are still doing the easy work, its still hard and tiring. I made her smiling away from the camera to show that she is happy and obedient but I wanted to make it seem like she was lying, like she wasnt looking the camera or man in the eyes so he wouldn't see that she is lying. By using the camera to depict a man, I angled the camera down at her to show that the man is overpowering the little girl and that she should be scared of him. This also plays in with why she is lying to him; because shes smaller, she should be scared of him.

I think that people who create these toys may not think about the long term impact it may have on a person. For little boys the spend their time playing with construction toys and tools. Little girls spend time playing with dolls, fake make-up, and dish sets. This tells little kids this is what they are supposed to be doing.
Girls are raised to learn that they are supposed to do the housework. They are in charge of the cooking and cleaning. Though this is not often the case it still occurs and men see this as an easy job. I like how this picture depicts that idea that womens work is jsut as hard as mens work.
It is very sad that a large amount of females growing up are taught to be the good "housewife". As society becomes more educated and grows more, they realize that this is not necessarily true. Women are capable of whatever they put their mind to. You go girl!
