In the picture you see two year old Kaitlyn. She is enjoying her play time pretending to dress up like her doll. She is wearing a ballerina tutu, her favorite dress up item and putting on pretend make-up and perfume. From the photo you can see that even at two years old she loves the color pink. She also enjoys taking care of her baby doll Kai Lan, a character in one of her favorite television shows Ni Hao Kai lan. I took the photo at floor level because I wanted to show the proportions as if I were playing with her. It is also shot off focus to blur her features. The section of the text book that I used as a bases for this photo was “Becoming Gendered: Childhood” I vividly remember the section discussing children’s toys and how gender is socially constructed from a young age. In my opinion this photo embodies that message.

This picture is significant because it is showing how our culture is a big reason why kids are forced into gender roles. This picture is showing a little girl playing with a pink makeup counter piece. This is teaching children that beauty is important in this culture and that it is especially important for women to care about their looks.
This picture is very significant because it shows how much the society influences very young girls that they are not pretty enough and they need make up to make them pretty.
This picture is showing how from a young age little girls are taught they have to put a lot of effort into looking good. I like how the photographer used the pink to show how feminine the picture was and how we have created this gender norm that says pink is only for girls.
