This is Tori and Christina, both 3 years old, playing in Tori's room. I believe this picture does a good job in illustrating becoming gendered in childhood. You may be able to tell that Christina and Tori are not brother and sister, and that they are in Tori's room. They are both only-children. You can see from Christina's expression and scrunched up position she isn't very comfortable in this room. From Tori's room you can see that he has grown up playing with Spider-man, Hulk, and Transformers. This explains his aggression in the photo, which to him is how you're supposed to play. Christina on the other hand, seems overwhelmed by all the “boy” toys as she clenches her princess doll she brought over with her. Note that the center of the picture is actually just white wall. The image is divided into two sections which represents the division of girls and boys. Tori is standing and is closer to the camera which makes him look bigger and stronger. Christina isn't taking up as much space, making her seem less powerful. The size of the children in the picture represents how men are seen as more powerful then women in our culture. Even at a young age, they boys are taught to be more aggressive and loud, while the girls are taught to sit and be more polite. The colors in this picture also represent the differences in boys and girls. All of the boys objects are red and blue and he wears a football shirt. Christina is wearing all pink with her hair in pig tails. Whether parents realize it or not, they are really teaching their sons and daughters to be gendered from the day they are born through toys and playing styles.

In this picture I like how the young boy is standing and the camera is more focused on him then the girl. This shows that even at a young age males are still the dominate group. I also like the fact that majority of the toys are for boys and the young girl only has one toy. This shows that the young boy has more power. The fact that girl is laying down on and looks scared also shows that the boy is in charge. This picture proves that males are the dominate group even at a young age.
I felt that this picture was a good way to show how genders are represented. It shows how boys are typically aggressive and are to have a brave toughness act to them. As for the girls, they are more about holding on to something to hide from what they fear. The picture shows that the little girl is not in the right room too because of how the little boy stands bravely and how she lies in the pillows in comfort and safe from what she doesn’t like or what she isn’t “used to”. Also you can see how the little boy is in green and blues which are darker colors, a sign of aggression and evil in a way. The little girl is in pinks, yellow, and lighter blues which show feminine and vibrant colors.
This picture is an excellent depiction of how gender and childhood toys can affect young children. Boys are taught so early to be tough and masculine through their toys. On the other hand, girls are taught to learn cooking and play dress up. The set up of this picture is really amazing. The room that this is taken in is a perfect example of the colors that are associated with gender. This boy’s room is full of male gender based colors such as red and blue. Female gender colors are pink and purple, which neither is found at all in the boy’s bedroom. The boy looks so macho and intimating; something he is learning through his superhero role models. Sadly, the girl looks as though she is almost afraid to be there which speaks volumes for children at this age. Children are supposed to be interacting with each other and be outgoing, not hovering in the corner. It is a sad representation of how the toys that children play with can so easily separate them.
This picture is the perfect picture of gendering children. I like that the picture is divided showing that boys and girls are seen as different. The fact that the girl is surrounded by all the boy things shows that this is a male dominated culture. The boy is standing proud and showing off his muscles to prove his power and dominance. The girl is holding on to her doll because it’s the only thing she is comfortable with, and girls tend to hold onto things that make them feel safe for as long as they can. Parents don’t understand how everything they do effects how the child see’s the world. By giving the boy all of these toys its teaching him that boys are supposed to be mean and aggressive. While the girl is given a doll, which she was most likely taught to play house with.

The Hulk and the Princess is a very descriptive picture of a three year old little boy and little girl. Tory is big and brave. Tory’s parents bought him Spider Man and Hulk. They are teaching him to fight and be the protector. He has the large boxing gloves on and in the picture he is larger than the little girl. Our society teaches little boys to be more aggressive and to protect women. Tory is protecting Christina. She is the typical little meek and scared little girl. She looks uncomfortable in the room or situation. She is smaller and powerless. Girls are taught to be more passive and not aggressive. She is letting him protect her which women are taught. She has a blanket on her lap which is a symbol for comfort. Women are taught to comfort others. Women are caregivers and are taught to take care of everyone. Christina is hugging her doll and role playing the mothering role. The gender roles of men and women start during childhood play. He has learned the role well. Christina is a cute little girl who has also learned the women submissive role. She is not comfortable with fighting and aggression. Both children are wearing the colors that are appropriate for their gender. Tory has the black football shirt on which signifies the big athlete. Boys play football which allows them legally to be aggressive. Men are paid large salaries to tackle each other and throw great passes. Have you ever seen women in professional football? No they are the sexy cheerleaders on the side lines. Tory and Christina’s behavior displays their gender roles.

I felt this picture showed unequality. The boy in the Hulk costume was standing up with tons of confidence and took up more of the picture than the little girl. She looked as if she was scared. The whole room looked as if it belong to the boy and she had little part to do with it because of the superheroes theme and action figures. She was positioned as she was waiting to be saved holding on to her princess doll and blanket.
This photo is the perfect example of how children boys and girls play. It really reflect our society and how males are taught to be strong and females are taught to be submissive and sometimes even weak. As pointed out the photo has all these strong attributes given to the male child while the female child is appearing very lost in society and afraid. I think it is a very good photo.
This picture illustrates gender schemas very clearly. The choice of color for they boy's clothes, toys and room accessories are all linked to the color a "boy should wear. Also the fact that he feels very big and powerful behind his "tough guise" is very important. On the other hand, the little girl is laying down, holding her toys tightly, taking little room and has a frighten expression on her face. Boys and girls are exposed to gender socialization from a very young age to help them make an idea of the way they should act and the colors they should choose to be a some point normal adults.
The fact that the little girl is lying down in a little spot on the bed shows how she thinks the boy is stronger than her. Also, the fact that the little boy is standing up show how he is the stronger one in the picture.
This picture is a good example of what children today are being taught from the toys they play with. The little boy playing with his hulk costume is being taught to be aggressive and manly. The little girl playing with her princess is being taught to be dainty and weak. They are following how these characters are portrayed and think they need to act the same way.
