From: Hailie Social demands and learning gender roles start at a very young age. This photo is an example of how the media and characters in movies influence the minds of young children. Stevie is three years old and one of his favorite things to do is watch movies. This photo shows Stevie imitating the character Gaston from Beauty & the Beast. Gaston's role teaches him that boys are expected to grow up to be strong, powerful and attract the opposite sex. When a character in a movie is strong and muscular they get a lot of attention. Little boys love attention and want to be the best at everything, they're very competitive. This makes them drawn to these characters and look up to them. Children do not have a chance to use their own imaginations. The media does not give them a choice to form their own opinions about gender roles and behavior. At a very young age they are exposed to gender stereotypes and messages conveying gender appropriate roles and behavior. In this photo there are many children's movies in the background, each with a different story. When little boys are asked about their favorite movies, they talk about brave, tough, and heroic characters. These traits are examples of male characteristics. The colors in this photo are masculine. Gaston is wearing a dark red shirt and Stevie is wearing dark blue and grey. The television and the character Gaston are shown above Stevie. This shows how children look up to movies and media for ideas of appropriate gender behavior. Children are influenced by so many different gender roles and how to look and act according to your gender. They learn what is acceptable and what is not throughout their childhood.

This picture shows how Disney movies influence young boys that they have to be strong, insensitive, aggressors and rescuers.
Disney movies are so unrealistic. Women are tiny and men are huge. Showing male characters with biceps bigger than their heads is absurd. This shows why young boys tend to view strength as power.
Disney movies have a major influence on young children. They create an unrealistic image of how children want to look, like the tiny disney princesses with perfect bodies and their male co-stars with their extremely muscular bodies. I thought this was a good portrayal of the way kids think.
The image shows an unrealistic goal for young boys to acheive. As in the film Mickey Mouse Monopoly Disney sets up characteristic of power and strength and little boys look at te fictional characters and admire them
