Continued Pressures

From: Danielle

What I am displaying in this picture is the common stresses and pressures of a young adult.  The Cosmos represent all the information that young women read into, to make themselves a better lover, kisser, girlfriend, to maintain the ideal body image, and of course all the beauty secrets.  Peer pressure comes from so many angles when you are young.  Friends, family, sex, alcohol and drug use, weight, appearance. I placed the magazine on top of the text books to display what a young girl’s priority is. When it comes to young girls, guys play a huge role in their lives.  They want to be liked, or loved. They want to be the one impressing instead of the girl who is not getting attention and over looked. In my picture you can see that she is writing in a notebook the names of the boys she has interest in as if not knowing which one to choose. Coming out of high school you begin to get the pressures of College choices like where you will go and the reality that it is time to grow up and make your own choices with your life.
Women go through so many changes throughout life, from young to old.  Everything just seems so much more exaggerated as a young adult.  Everything affects their lives all the stress from school, down to the color nail polish you have.  Judgments are made on women a lot more common they are men.  We have to look beautiful all the time; we have to make sure our body is perfect but there is always a problem.  Were either to fat or too skinny.  There is no in-between; it’s as if there is not satisfaction not only to those looking at you but to the women themselves. Women spend so much time worrying about everything else around them and how they feel the ideal women should look or act rather than what makes them happy and satisfied with their lives.  And it starts at a younger and younger age every year.

I agree , I believe that guys play a huge role in effecting young girls lives as well as the media. However, the media exaggerates the appearance of the “ideal women” which influences young girls to think that they should look a certain way in order to impress guys or get their attention. The whole world is a stressor, peers, school, even parents. Society has put roles on women which makes them have a priority in always trying to look good. Girls should just accept themselves for who they are and not for what they think looks right.

The message that is being displayed through this picture is of great matter. The fact that emphasis is being brought upon the pressures that young women experience daily and the prioritization that women deal with. I think the message is an important one given all the tasks that younger women are left to deal with because of what the media and social norms have conceived and accepted as normal tasks and what women are supposed to do.

What I see when I look at this photo is a young woman consumed by media. She has every kind of magazine spread out, looking through them to see what latest trends are or what have you. This can be very dissatisfying for many young women,as the models in these magazines have the "perfect" body, skin, teeth. If girls continue to use these as their guides, the next generation could be in for a world of trouble.
