My picture is of two of my good guy friends. They attend the University of West Virginia and are on the wrestling team. I wanted to take this picture after we discussed the tough guise theory and how big macho men shows power and receives acceptance. When I told my friends I needed a picture of them together that will show ‘masculinity’ they both suggested they take off their shirts, before I had even mentioned that is what I wanted them to do. They then proceeded to make gestures with their hands that I assume they thought would make them look ‘harder’. They put their arms around each other, but at the same time left room in between them, almost saying that they are close, but not that close. I think it shows a good prospective of a college jock and the attitude that they have, and show toward people and their friends.

At a young age media portrays how to be a real man. In Disney movies the male characters appear to have big muscles in there arms, legs and have a six pack. They are strong, brave, powerful and the hero. Later on when they start going in to their teens in High School trough College the media portray males being a Jock. They are the popular people who are attractive, a great body with big muscles, have the pretty girls, and people who look up to them and are afraid of them. This influences a boy that is how a man should act. If they are not tough and more feminine that show their emotions that it is a sign of weakness and people make fun of them because that is not how a man acts. That is why they adopt the Tough Guise Theory.
This photo and your comment is actually quite amusing, I find it hilarious that you label them as college jocks. In this photo I agree with the spacing in between them, as like you said, "close but not that close." The space between them exemplifies the brotherly maternal aspect within the guys, but the paternal instinct happens with the minute separation between the bodies of the guys.
I like how there is nothing in this photo besides the two guys. They seem very calm and collective while taking this photo and their body positioning (and the fact that they are comfortable enough to be shirtless for a photo) shows how confident they must be in themselves. These guys look up to the men in magazines and movie stars that are bulky in size. They see that many women are attracted to the large body size and they are confident in their appearance. Looking up to the media will do this to you.
