From Tatiana
On a beautiful sunny morning two girls are watering the garden as their
mother has taught them to do. In this picture, the girls focus their
efforts to do their job gently and seriously. The patience that they
have learned from their mother allows them to dedicate their time to
watering the flowers. The compassion that they demonstrate is
something that not many boys would be able to mimic. The girls work
together as a close team. The girls not only have their mother and
society to teach them their roles, but they are also learning from one
another as sisters.
At the young ages of 3 and 5, the girls are naturally posed without their hair and makeup done. They are too young to be worried about how they look or what they are wearing: those lessons will be learned in the years to come. The soft lines of their clothes, hair, and gentle faces, create an image of the girls doing something peaceful on a beautiful morning. The hues in the picture help to bring the feeling of closeness, and gentle spirit to the captured moment. The leaning girls, leaning tree, and gently tilted watering pot held by both girls give the photo a gentle visual movement. All of the elements in the picture are in harmony, lending calmness to the photo.
The closeness of the girls in their activity, their age, and relationship create a bond from which they both will learn. At this early age they prefer to be close together, or even in physical contact, and enjoy participating in activities at this close range. The oldest girl is copying the activities of her mother, and the youngest is copying her older sister. They are all a team, and learn well from each other.
Even though they work well as a team, children make their own decisions in the end. They observe the parents, and respond in their own ways. The children watch the parents and interpret their parents' behavior
in the best way the children know how. After their observations they create their own gender scheme. They put together their own view and perspective on the world, which was molded by their perspectives of our
culture, their parents, and one another. The girls are developing their gender schema from observing their parents as socializing agents. They were watching their mother care for flowers, and they see how the flowers grow when they are properly cared for, giving the flowers a beautiful bloom. These observations have motivated the girls to engage in this behavior. Girls like to see the beautiful flowers and color, and that is why they do the activities that will result in pretty things they desire.
Their observations prepare and shape their consciousness for later in life, to play out their role as women. They see from their perspective how the world works, and then play out that role as best they can.

This is a beautiful picture! I thought it was very powerful in that it portrays how gentle and sincere young girls are. It shows many qualities that girls are "suppose" to have, such as patience, compassion, etc. It is definitely a very beautiful picture, it shows the closeness between the two and the overall beauty between the two.
This picture is precious, but it does show how little girls look up to their mothers. Women live by gender scripts and they are encouraged to abide by them as they grow up. Women are supposed to help around the house and keep everything clean according to stereotypical housewife roles. These little girls are taking care of the garden together, which they probably learned from their mother and possibly people on the television. It's sad that they are learning at such a young age though.
I really enjoyed this photo. It shows the girls as being very soft and gentle, and compassionate about watering these flowers. It is sad that a little boy wouldnt have the same compassion. Children learn their "roles" in life at a very young age, maybe the mother should be teaching them more dynamic roles than just the womens roles. Lets let them cut the grass, and let the boys water the flowers.
Love this picture, this shows how young girls automatically have a bonding connection to one another, and shows the warmth an caring they are towards nature.
This picture shows how gender roles are taught at a young age. Parents teach their children how to act according to their gender from the time they are born. However most parents don't even realize their doing it. It's interesting that the two subjects in the picture are both girls. Most mothers would teach their daughters how to water the plants but you nearly never see mohers teaching this to their sons.
