The fairly blank wall in the back of the photo shows the innocence of childhood. The degree and plaque on the wall show an end goal the child may hope to pursue, the angle at which the picture was taken shows the viewer that the toys are held in a high light to the child be it a girl's toy (barbie) or a boy's (G.I. Joe), it shows how we as a human society attempt to push a child into their gender role by giving them a play-mate that will put the "gender-appropriate" thoughts and ideas into their minds.The toys are simply the medium by which gender roles are communicated to a child as what is expected of them. This is a good example of how we are reinforcing the cycle of single gender behavior, which is laid out by the media and then in turn re-reinforced by the parents of the child.
