Constant Pressure
From: Austin
This photo is from a pageant that my mother runs. In a pageant all the girls practice week in and week out for a weekend of events. They will be judged on many factors and hopefully be crowned as the winner. There are over 20 girls competing for one prize. The pageant scene has many similarities to how women mature. The girls are put up on a stage and told to perform a certain script. This usually contains modeling, talent, and answering a question. They are then judged on how they do. They are told to walk, talk, and act like a lady. This is similar to what they have been learning all there lives from tv, movies, and competing against other girls to be the best. They fit into these scripts and whoever performs them the best is deemed the most popular. Girls are judged constantly by men, other woman, and society. The girl who is in the center of the picture just won 2nd runner-up. She looks to be a little disappointed that she is not the winner. Happy that she won something but not the top prize. The thing that stands out most is the girl on the right. She looks downright pissed. They are announcing the winners and it is getting closer and closer and she has not yet won anything. She is looking at the current Junior Miss wanting to be crowned so badly. I think this is how many woman view the girls in magazines. Not everyone can look like these celebrities but they try so hard to fit into what society has chosen for them. It is unrealistic for most girls to look like these people but they go to extreme lengths to make an attempt.
